It’s Spring – no…wait…

I’ve been in southcentral Alaska for the last couple of weeks on a combination of personal business and teleworking. My own airplane is in the shop in Arizona getting annualed, and so, there hasn’t been much in the way of pertinent blog material to share of late.

Here I am in the ultimate pilot’s playground without a flying machine. That part sucks.

Regardless, it’s been interesting watching the spring weather. There’s big green buds on the birch trees, but the lake ice is still slushy (last skiplane left it about 2 weeks ago). First day in-state was a big snowstorm, but it all disappeared a day later. It’s sunny now,  but it’ll rain later. Anything but dull.

So, a few days ago, I notice that the webcam at Johnson Creek shows all the snow gone, and the grass is even greening up. Next day, the first C185 of the season shows up in front of the camera. Spring, apparently, has come to Idaho.

Or not…

So the weather’s better in Alaska than Idaho. I guess that would mean …. spring?

2010 Alaska State Aviation Trade Show – this coming weekend. I’ll be your roving reporter, OK?
